We are excited to announce that our team has won a 2025 Chrysalis Award for our sunroom addition in Hawthorn Woods! The Chrysalis Awards honor outstanding remodeling and design projects each year, celebrating excellence across both regional and national categories. Judging criteria includes innovation in layout and materials, cohesive design execution, and the dramatic improvement of the original space.
Our team partnered with long-time Hawthorn Woods residents, Jill and John, to bring their dream of a sunny sunroom to life from design through construction. Let’s take a quick tour of this award-winning addition project.
2025 Chrysalis Award Winner
Home additions come in all shapes and sizes, tailored to the evolving needs of the families who live in them. For Jill and John, investing in a sunroom addition wasn’t just about adding square footage—it was a thoughtfully planned investment in their future. They loved their neighborhood and envisioned staying in their home long-term. But to do that comfortably, they needed more space—a peaceful, light-filled room to unwind, spend time with family, and host guests.
Behind the Design
The couple’s backyard already offered stunning views, but rather than a seasonal porch, they wanted a permanent year-round space. Together with our design team, they planned a sunny sitting room that would feel like a natural extension of the home. The design emphasized comfort, harmony with the existing structure, and most importantly, natural light.
Jill’s vision included bright materials, layered textures, and expansive windows to let in the light. She wanted a space that felt fresh and modern, yet effortlessly blended with their home.
Inviting Connection
The award-winning sunroom has become a favorite space for Jill, John, their family, and friends. The space is airy and welcoming, featuring a vaulted shiplap ceiling, a cozy sitting area, and a charming dining space just off the kitchen. The chandelier, floating elegantly above the room, adds a warm glow that enhances the sunlit atmosphere.
Rather than installing a television, they chose to hang art between the windows, fostering a calming ambiance that encourages conversation and reflection—values that resonated throughout the design process and contributed to the project’s standout recognition.
Award-Winning Details
Part of what sets this award-winning addition apart is its seamless integration with the original structure. From the foundation to the final coat of paint, every transition point was handled with the intention of matching the new room to the rest of the home. Jill and John ulitmately decided to re-side their entire home and match the trim and gutters to ensure complete continuity. Whether you’re looking at the house from the street or enjoying the backyard patio, the addition looks as though it was always meant to be there.
