Jessie and Tony felt cramped and disorganized by the existing first-floor layout of their Geneva home. Their kitchen and rarely-used dining room did not achieve the open-concept flow they were dreaming of, and they were lacking organized workspaces for their family. Jessie loves cooking for friends and family, but hosting large family gatherings was difficult with their existing layout.

Their initial project scope stemmed from the need for functional desk space for everyone in the family to use for remote learning and working. As the couple thought through their goals, however, they decided a full first-floor redesign and remodel was necessary to maximize square footage and increase storage.

Finding the Right Team

Jessie and Tony knew they wanted to make their first floor more spacious and maximize storage but weren’t sure of the exact design solution. They began the search to partner with a professional remodeling team to understand their vision and bring it to life.

Partnering with a trustworthy team that could provide a clear picture of what their new space would look like before demolition even started was very important to the couple. As Jessie was searching for reputable remodeling companies, multiple homeowners recommended Advance Design Studio on Facebook.

The couple contacted Advance Design, and after meeting with Lead Designer Anna and learning about Advance Design’s “Common Sense Remodeling” process, they knew they had found the right team to partner with.

The First Floor Redesign

Throughout the redesign phase, the couple worked with Anna to find the best design solution for their family. This ultimately included removing the wall between their kitchen and dining room and completely remodeling their kitchen. Custom built-in workstations were designed for the dining room as well. Kitchen appliances and cabinetry were reworked to maximize functional storage.

Jessie and Tony truly valued the custom investment analysis and detailed drawings they received during the design phase. Advance Design’s 3D renderings enabled the couple to envision their new space and feel completely confident before demolition and construction even started. The couple fell in love with the designs and materials Anna prepared for them and couldn’t wait to get started!

“What sold us on ADS was the comprehensiveness of it all. Being able to see the renderings is amazing. We came to the studio to see the materials and 3Ds, and I gasped when I saw them. The design far exceeded everything we could have imagined! Anna was fantastic to work with, I loved everything she put together.” Jessie said.

“Opening up the dining room wall creates the appearance of an expanded kitchen. We chose to close an existing kitchen doorway and rework some cabinetry and appliances as well. This creates a better flow and increases the overall storage and function of the kitchen layout,” said Anna.

A Complete Transformation

The new first floor achieves the open-concept flow Jessie and Tony were hoping for. With the wall removed, the dining room is now a versatile, practical space for hosting large family gatherings or simply working from home.

“We use it as a home office, the kids study here, and our arts and craft supplies are here and usable. The storage space it’s given us has been great,” said Jessie.

The kitchen is bright and inviting in both style and layout. Durable, low-maintenance LVT flooring flows throughout the new first floor to ground the space visually. White veined Quartz countertops compliment the black and white backsplash, a feature that Jessie particularly loves. Open wood shelving creates a decorative storage moment between the kitchen and dining room transition.

Jessie and Tony are thrilled with their first-floor redesign and overall experience with the Advance Design team.

“I love everything about our kitchen. I love cooking for our family, and the new kitchen layout is completely functional. The veined island counters are stunning, and whenever anyone walks in our kitchen they compliment the backsplash. Even during the demo, the guys were so accommodating. Jason was our Project Manager and he was super responsive and made sure everything was taken care of,” said Jessie.

“The backsplash is a beautiful statement feature. Keeping the space clean and bright was important, and I love the matte black and white touches throughout the space. I love that they saw my vision and went with it!” said Lead Project Designer Anna.
