Making your home function perfectly for your family is important, and this includes your furry family members. Your pets deserve to enjoy spaces designed just for them. Here are five of our favorite ways to integrate personal, pet-friendly spaces in your home while maintaining cohesive, beautiful designs.

Pet Pantry for Essentials

Making your home comfortable for both you and your pets is important, but maintaining a clean, organized home at the same time can be difficult. Having one place to keep your pet essentials is a simple solution that will keep you organized and prevent clutter in other areas of your home.

Custom built-in cabinetry is the perfect opportunity to design storage solutions for your pet-related needs. Keep food, leashes, cleaning supplies, toys, and more all in one place. Our clients in Deer Park included a cozy nook in their pet pantry for their dog to relax in. See more photos of this remodel here.

Built-In Feeding Nooks

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and having a space designed for your pets and their eating routines will benefit both you and them. While pets are commonly fed in kitchens or mudrooms, custom food stations can be designed wherever meals happen for your pets.

Kitchen islands are a popular location for built-in pet food stations. The embedded bowls prevent spills and free up valuable floor space for your furry friends to enjoy time with family in the kitchen. There are a variety of options to choose from to create a chic and organized look that fits both your space and your pets’ needs. If you’re looking to pamper your pet (and yourself) even further, a pot filler will save you countless trips to the sink.

Traditional Crate Alternatives

If you are looking for an alternative to sequestering your pet in a crate or behind a closed door when company arrives or you leave home, adding a Dutch door to your laundry or mudroom may be the perfect solution.

Our clients in Warrenville were looking for a way to easily sequester their dogs without making them feel cooped up in a crate. Our design solution included a white Dutch door leading from their mudroom into the kitchen. The addition of the Dutch door allows our clients to create a partial separation, making this mudroom the perfect spot for our clients’ pets to hang out without feeling cramped. If a traditional crate works best for your pet, there are many furniture options that cleverly combine crates with functional furniture pieces. Custom storage can be built around your crate to save floor space, add counter space, and achieve a cohesive design.

Pet Grooming Stations

Commonly located in mudrooms or laundry rooms, pet showers offer many benefits, especially for dog owners. After an exhilarating day outside running through the mud, digging through leaves, or rolling in something smelly, dogs need a deep clean. Like normal showers, pet showers are customizable to fit your space as well as your pet’s size and accessibility needs. Save yourself from extra trips to the groomer and make bath time more functional for both you and your pet!

Some of our favorite pet shower features include handheld pet fixtures to rinse thoroughly and reduce splashing, a niche or bench to keep shampoo within arms’ reach, and a waterproof jar of treats to reward your furry friend for good bathing behavior of course!

Comfortable Cubbies

Whether you’re getting ready in the morning, cooking in the kitchen, or just relaxing on the couch, many pets love to stay close whenever their family is at home. Selecting furniture pieces with nooks for your pets to relax in while allowing them to stay near to you is an easy way to make your space feel more pet friendly.

This Dura Supreme kitchen island from our Buffalo Grove kitchen remodel seamlessly integrates design and function for both homeowners and furry friends. The front half of the island offers storage for kitchenware, while the other end includes a decorative platform for pets to relax on without taking up valuable floor space.

We hope these pet-friendly space ideas inspire you to create functional spaces in your home with your unique pets in mind.
