We are excited to share that Advance Design has been chosen as a 2021 Chrysalis Award Winner for our master bath remodel project in Lakewood, IL. The Chrysalis Awards program annually recognizes the nation’s best design and remodeling work. Winners are chosen based on creative use of space and materials, overall design, and the overall transformation of the original space. We are thankful for this honor and recognition of our team’s hard work and talent.
To celebrate this award-winning bath, we’re taking a closer look at this project and the story behind it.
An Award-Winning Bath Remodel
Josh and Morgan of Lakewood, IL came to Advance Design with dreams of turning their master bath into a luxurious home spa. Morgan, in addition to being a full-time mom, loves interior design and decorating. While Morgan had ideas for the overall feel she wanted, she needed help implementing them in a functional design.
Morgan’s friend highly recommended Advance Design Studio who she used for a beautiful first-floor renovation. In addition, the couple’s friend Jason was a project manager for Advance Design. “It was the icing on the cake,” Morgan said on working with Jason.

The pair met with Project Designer Claudia and connected immediately. Claudia’s calm demeanor and abundance of knowledge cemented their choice of Advance Design. Morgan loved bouncing ideas off her as they worked on the bath design.
Before materials were selected, the layout of the existing space needed to be reworked to maximize functionality and square footage. Claudia suggested moving the toilet to the other side of the shower to allow space for a soaking tub and increase natural light. Morgan hadn’t considered that possibility, but once Claudia showed her the 3D illustrations she was sold.
Morgan was hoping her new master bath would have light, fresh finishes throughout. A trio of polished nickel sconces set the initial tone of the design, while the rest of the space features a mix of white and gray hues. The material selections work harmoniously to create a calming atmosphere as you enter the room.
Jason and Advance Design’s carpenters worked quickly and cleanly to complete the master bath remodel. Morgan and Josh appreciated Jason’s communication throughout the project. “Jason is wonderful. I love that he gives you a timeline and he tries to stick to it and he lets you know how things are going all of the time,” Morgan said.
Custom paneling and ceiling shiplap add charming character to the space. In addition, heated floors and a towel warmer add an extra layer of luxury. “I wanted a spa. I wanted the fanciest hotel bath that I’ve ever been in. That’s the feeling I wanted and that’s what I got,” Morgan said.
Bathtub Panel Details
Gold accents in the mirrors and pendant light fixture contrast the bright white colors of the tub and walls. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this bathroom in a five-star hotel. The only problem is deciding who gets to use the bath first. “We fight over it,” Morgan said. “Every time we walk in it’s jaw-dropping.”
Morgan and Josh enjoyed their experience with Advance Design and are in love with their award-winning master bath. “We highly recommend them. Every project has its bumps, you can’t have one without, but they made it super easy.”
