Carpentry/Field Crew

Meet the Advance Design Studio carpentry house renovation team.

Lead Carpenter, Carpentry Specialist

Jon_Carpentry specialist_newAs a Lead Carpenter and carpentry specialist, Jon prides himself on his well-rounded experience. You will frequently see him framing additions, decks and screen porches for Advance Design; while his ability to shift gears and also perform fine carpentry is impressive.

Jon’s flexibility makes him a wonderful pinch hitter for the team, able to pick up and jump in anytime his skill is needed in various different places. He is not immune to hard work outside in the hot sun, and actually relishes the opportunity to enjoy nature while he works. Clients comment often on his focused, yet easy going demeanor; you will never observe Jon stressed out no matter the situation, and his quietly positive attitude is one of his best qualities.

“Working at advance has been a great opportunity with all the diversity of projects that we work on. I really enjoy working on projects that have been so well thought out; the preparation work our design team does before a project reaches the field is so well done – that it makes my job really easy”, says Jon. “I love the complete customization to the client’s exact needs that is the foundation on which we operate.”

“My role here gives me the freedom and encouragement to perfect my craft, something I take very seriously. I also get to meet a lot of great people, which makes my job well rounded and a complete joy when I step back and think about it”.

Jon has been working as a carpenter for over a decade. He began his career with an education at Harper College, and enjoyed experience with the World Trade Center Chicago and the Smithsonian Institute. Jon is adept regarding the unique challenges of renovating older homes; before joining Advance Design in 2011, he worked extensively on the North Shore of Chicago in older residential communities.

Jon lives in Elgin and has enjoyed extensive traveling with his wife through Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and Central America. He loves outdoor activities, has enjoyed volunteering for his church’s soup kitchen for the homeless, and participates in “Yeah Day”, a children’s arts festival in Evanston for the past several years.

Lead Carpenter, Carpentry Specialist

As a Lead Carpenter and finish carpentry specialist, Jeff takes great care to make certain every detail is a perfect as it can be. “Todd always says, make it right it might be there for 100 years…I take that statement seriously in everything I touch”, says Jeff.

Jeff works as part of the carpentry team, mainly installing cabinetry, mill-work, fine finish details and other installation. He leads the field in his ability to perform his job with skill and precision, in addition to maintaining an easy ongoing communication with clients as projects progress under his careful watch. His dedication to his craft is evident on every project he participates in, and in every client who comments on his positive presence.

“I am a people person, and I love to help people whenever I can. Working at Advance Design has allowed me to help people by beautifying the rooms in their homes, one at a time – and using my talent to do something they were not able to do by themselves. I take pride in the fact, and it’s extremely satisfying to know – that after I am done with a project, the results will be admired for years to come”, says Jeff.

Jeff brings over two decades of carpentry experience to his role here at Advance Design. In 1994 he worked to complete a four year program with the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentice Training Program. The following sixteen years he performed as a Union Carpenter in the commercial construction industry as a carpenter and Foreman. For a short time he ran his own residential remodeling business, and joined Advance Design in 2013 to work as a Lead Carpenter.

Jeff lives in Huntley with his wife since 2000, and something few people know about him is he has had a bit of a drum obsession for over 30 years. He is a fan of anything outdoors.

Carpentry Specialist
Amir_Carpentry specialist

Coming from a foreign country, Amir and his siblings were forced to drop out of school to help provide for his family. When he arrived in the United States, he didn’t have any real marketable skills. An early friend took him under his wing and taught him how to become a carpenter. It wasn’t until age 38 that he had the opportunity to take classes at Evanston High school to work on his GED.

“I value the opportunity I have here to be a hard worker and apply my talents. I am a good framing carpenter, and have been learning all other aspects of well-rounded carpentry. Because we work on such a diversity of projects, I have the opportunity to always be learning something new and increasing my value as part of a team,” says Amir.

Amir has been part of the Advance team since 2013. You may see him on your project early on, as he is the fastest demo-specialist on the team. He works directly with Project Managers on carpentry construction and has become a valued member of the company.

Amir resides in Glenview with his wife and 2 daughters.

Carpentry Specialist

Chris_webChris works with the field team on projects from literally beginning to end. Caring for jobsites, doing demolition, running deliveries and aiding the carpentry team in any area necessary, his main objective is to keep projects rolling forward in as efficient a manner as possible.

After completing his education at Milliken University, Chris has been a hard working and reliable individual trying out different areas all involving customer service from sales roles to actually working on an Illinois River boat. But after indulging for years in his favorite hobby of hand finishing and restoring furniture, in addition to his love of people -he discovered his talent when working with wood and carpentry.

Pursuing his desire to work professionally in the remodeling field, Chris joined the team at Advance Design in 2016. “I’m especially excited about working with Advance Design because I have the opportunity to learn new skills every day in a professional and extremely positive work environment. I love the work we do here, and everyone is interested in helping one another to grow. I love pleasing our clients and I am motivated each time I contribute to a successful project.” says Chris.

Although Chris grew up in and lives in Geneva loving anything athletic and sports oriented, it’s somewhat of a secret that he is a “Packers” fan (shhhh!), but please don’t hold it against him.
